Will the compulsory fitting of speed limiters on new cars mean insurance policies could be reduced?

With the compulsory fitting of 'speed limiters' on new cars from July 1st, is it wishful thinking insurance policies could be reduced?

Many new vehicles do have speed limiters already, but there are so many factors which contribute to your overall insurance costs - like your postcode, your annual mileage and the type of car you drive. So it's difficult to say how much impact this will have at this very moment. But in theory, speed limiters should make cars safer and therefore reduce the likelihood of making a claim. And that means prices should be cheaper as a result. As more and more drivers start being introduced to these types of features, we could potentially see some change. But it’s too early to tell right now.
