Can I be insured to drive any car?

With difficulty parking in my district, I’ve sold my car and use more local urban buses. However, I have a clean licence and would like to drive outside the city. How could I manage this, borrowing friends, family or hire cars and be insured?

If you’re not driving often, you could take out temporary car insurance on a friend or family member’s car. You can insure yourself from one hour and up to 30 days and it’s a great alternative for those who only need to drive on certain occasions. But be warned that temporary cover can sometimes be more expensive than a regular policy, so you’ll likely have to factor these costs in.

If you’re driving a family member’s car often and you live in the same household, you could also see whether it’s worth being added as a named driver on their policy. But if you don’t live with them, then temporary car insurance is most likely your best option. Just don’t drive while uninsured, whatever you do.
