Diesel Particulate Filters
I'm aware that modern diesel engines have particulate filters that can be unsuited to repeated short journeys (require a long run to clean them up, e.g. Mazda 5 diesel).
When did manufacturers start using these for the diesel engines (I believe that it's mostly Euro IV and Euro V compliant engines, so when did these models come in)?
What I really want to know is when I buy a second-hand diesel, how old do I have to go in order to avoid this problem?

That's right. Most EU IV over 1.4 litres, all EUV diesels. Some PSA/Ford 1.6TDCI 90s got away without them, and Hyundai/KIA managed without as well, up to January 2011 from when every new diesel had to have a DPF. No Mk III Mondeo diesels had them, nor Jag X Type diesels. Citroen fitted them to 2.0 and 2.2HDIs from about 2001.
