DPF problem

I have just been quoted £2300 to replace the DPF filter and EGR valve on my 2007 Fiat Multipla diesel.

The car has done 10,000 miles in a year, the majority of which were in the city but with a 100 mile plus motorway run every two weeks.

Dealer has tried regeneration without success. Can I avoid this huge bill? Am very angry since warning light only came on AFTER the problem became critical.

That's what will happen if the car does a succession of short runs from cold starts. Diesels with DPFs are not suitable for this type of use.
