Can I contest a PCN for a low traffic neighbourhood contravention?

I received a PCN on Stoke Newington Church St junction of Marton Road for contravening the prohibition of a car on a road. I did see a tiny yellow sign saying road closed ahead. No mention of how far away so I paid attention and looked out for an obstruction or physical barrier closing the road as at that time I had never heard of a low traffic neighbourhood (LTN) or a bus gate.

There were adequately sized white signs showing prohibition of cars ahead and to the right but again no mention of at what point onward travel would be criminalised. Then, just beyond the point of no return there was another tiny yellow sign saying exit route left. Deliberately placed too small and too late for the first time user of that road. Am I supposed to emergency stop to potentially induce an accident then risk a charge for stopping and or reversing on main road or any other trumped up misdemeanour captured by the camera?

For revenue maximisation they had chosen to paint some rainbows in the road instead of “BUSES ONLY”. These LTNs have been in the news this week and I for one can see why. I guess I just pay up more than I did for the world class athletics that I was on the way back from as the powers that be have all of the power and none of the integrity?

As with any PCN you have the right to appeal, the information on the ticket should explain how to go about this. If you feel that the signage was inadequate then this could be grounds for appeal, so you could take photographs of the signs or use Google Street View to show how the signage appears.
