Is an international Driving Permit (IDP) required for driving in Turkey?

My wife and I have often driven rented cars in Turkey but due to illness and Covid we have not visited for 5 years. In those days before Brexit driving licences issued in EU/EEA countries were acceptable and we had no difficulty renting cars.

So while planning a trip for later this year I thought it might be a good idea to check the current licence requirements for driving in Turkey. The GOV.UK Foreign Travel Advice for Turkey is quite clear and says an IDP (1968) plus UK licence is required for driving in Turkey. But interestingly, the RAC website asserts that an IDP is not required unless one stays in Turkey for more than three months. Could you perhaps clarify the situation?

Although these two sources offer seemingly contradictory advice, we would suggest siding with the government's advice here: www.gov.uk/driving-abroad/international-driving-pe...t which suggests that an IDP is required to drive in Turkey. Also at £5.50 for an IDP, it seems like a modest investment to avoid any potential issues.
