I bought a nearly new car that turned out to be an import - what can I do?

I bought a car with delivery miles on it in July last year, I have tried trading it in and been told its an import, what are my rights?

As a buyer, you have the right to be provided with accurate and truthful information about the vehicle you purchased, including its origin and history. If you were not informed that the car was an import at the time of purchase, you may have grounds for a complaint.

You should first check your purchase agreement and any other documentation you received when you bought the car to see if there is any mention of the vehicle being an import. If there is no mention of this, you should contact the dealer or seller and explain the situation. You can ask them to either provide you with compensation or to take back the car and refund your money. The issue may be that the amount of time that has passed has made this difficult, but the fact that this is about the origin and history of the car and not its condition or function goes in your favour.

If the dealer or seller is unwilling to help, you can contact Trading Standards. They can provide you with guidance on how to proceed and what your options are under the law.
