Damage caused to vehicle by a bin in high winds - who should pay?
My car has recently been struck by a bin. It was left at the roadside and was blown into the path of my car in high winds. It has caused severe damage to the front of my car. Cracking the bumper, grille front parking sensors and radar sensor. Can I approach the homeowner and ask them to pay for the damage?

Having your car damaged by a bin in high winds is a frightening and frustrating experience. But making a claim against the homeowner will be very difficult if they refuse to pay.
You will need to prove the vehicle damage was caused by the homeowner's negligence. You will also need to prove it was their bin that damaged your vehicle (as they may deny responsibility).
More often than not, these cases are considered an 'act of god' and result in an insurance claim on the car owner's policy. But some people do pursue these matters via the courts; however, this will incur further expense with no guarantee of a positive outcome.
