When should the timing belt be changed on a Peugeot 208?

My daughter's Peugeot 208 is now six years old with 52,000 miles on the clock. It has a full service history.

The official interval for changing the timing belt is 10 years/112,000 miles, whichever comes comes first. This seems over long. What would you recommend?

There have been a lot of reported problems with the timing belts on 1.2 PureTech petrol engines. The belt runs in oil and is designed to last 10 years. But some of our readers have reported the belts delaminating and breaking up (resulting in engine failure).

On the latest version of the 1.2 PureTech engine, Peugeot recommends a belt change every six years or 60,000 miles (whichever comes first). Given the problems, I'd probably shorten that to every five years or 60,000 miles.
