Intermittent engine problems
Hoping you can help. I have two questions:
1. My car (new 520DSE) is normally very quiet and smooth. However, the engine noise rises and the smoothness is lost on a regular basis (every fortnight or so), lasting for approx 10 minutes before returning to normal. This happens when the accelerator is pressed very lightly but the effects are as if the car is being accelerated hard - increased engine noise and vibration. It is most noticeable at around 1500-2000rpm. The car has done 4000 miles and had this issue from new. Any ideas what this could be? I expect the dealer will have problems finding an intermittent fault.
2. I also have no medium wave radio signal, the resolution is to replace the rear windscreen which I'm reluctant to do in case matters are made worse and I can live without MW. Do you think I should get it replaced under warranty?

Considering how new the car is, I would advise that you take it back to the dealership and get them to resolve the problem. If necessary, leave the car with them until they find the cause(it could be a number of things so it is not really worth me trying to guess).
As for the radio, you could try to see if they will change it for free. I would go along the lines that they failed to tell you that even though it is a new BMW you cannot have MW radio.
