Parking charge notice - where do I stand?

In relation to advice posted last year regarding parking fines received from private companies, my wife and I received a Parking Charge of £60 in the post shortly before Christmas for a parking contravention at Brent South Retail Park, which we believed was part of the Brent Cross Shopping Centre car park (and therefore free). The signage for this private car park, which was adjacent to the official car parks, was completely inadequate.

We wrote a letter in response to the fine, apologising and making a formal complaint regarding their poor signage and enclosed payment in settlement of £10.

Their response came by post 10 days later stating that unfortunately the amount we paid was lower than that due and could we please make arrangements to settle the remainder of monies owed. Until then, the Parking Charge remains outstanding.

I notice from my bank statement however that the cheque written has been banked by the company and left my account.

Would you have any advice on where I should go from here please?

Yes. Tell them if they want to take the matter any further they will have to sue you in a court convenient to you for any further money and you will attend and contest this as "unreasonable".
