Vauxhall Astra temperature gauge
I've just bought a Vauxhall Astra 1.6 auto and the temperature gauge doesn't move when driving but when sitting it starts to rise?

That's as it should be. The engine is more likely to overheat when stationary, but the electric fan should cut in. If it doesn't then the engine temp sensor/sender switch is faulty.
