Raynes dear
I have owned a 2005 VW Touran 1.9TDI for about 3 years, with no problems so far. Fairly low mileage-about 33,000. The ESP (Electronic Stabilisation Program) warning light is now permanently on which means that the system is switched off so currently the traction control does not operate. I have had one rear tyre replaced a week ago and although all 4 tyres are the same make this new tyre has slightly more tread on it than the other rear tyre. Could this be affecting the ESP or could it be incorrect fitting of the wheel when the new tyre was replaced? Or something else entirely? I have checked and ensured all 4 tyres are the correct pressure. I am tempted to get the tyre fitting company to check it otherwise I'll get it checked when I have the car serviced later this month. Any thoughts and advice gratefully received.

It's the standard problem outlined in the column over the past two weeks, and in more detail in the Touran entry in car-by-car breakdown at hjuk. If the car has been VW serviced all its life then VW will cough up for the failed Teves ABS module.
