My wife is about to change her car and can't decide what to get. It needs to be an automatic and as quiet and as comfortable as possible inside. She will buy a nearly new car that is up to a year old with up to 12k miles on the clock. The budget is £22k. Her options are the Lexus IS250 (slightly too big), the BMW 120D coupe (only two doors) the Audi 2.0TDI (rather plain to look at) or maybe something else that we haven't thought of. What would you recommend?

The strange thing is that, as I read the first paragraph, I automatically
thought Lexus IS250 auto. And there it was in your second paragraph. Both the BMW and the Audi are much more economical, but will feel rough and harsh compared to the IS. Try to get the car on 16" wheels with deep profile tyres. It’s not too bad on 17s, but you start to feel the bumps on 18s.
