Give and take
In March 2009 I was involved in a crash, which was deemed to be my fault. When my insurance renewal came through from Endsleigh it had gone up by over 60%, so I rang them. I was told the increase was due to my claim, so I pointed out that I had protected N.C.D, only to be told my N.C.D stays the same but my basic premium had been loaded because a claim had been made against me. Is this normal procedure for insurance companies?

Sadly, these days, yes. It needs to be contested and the case taken to appeal at the new Supreme Court to define the law. They have sold you 'protected' no claims discount. But they have nevertheless increased the basic premium you pay because of a claim. So what one hand has sold you the other hand has taken from you. A bit like buying a car at a 20% discount, then finding out that the price has gone up by 80%. To me, that's fraud. Might be to a judge.
