Prop forewarned

I am debating whether to buy either a VW Tiguan, SE 2WD 2 litre TDI, or a Ford Kuga 2WD Zetec 2 litre TDI. I intend to keep it long term so re-sale value is not too important. I am told the VW is better made and will hold together longer. Which one would you go for or any alternative. (Want 2WD.)

Who told you that? It's a myth perpetuated by brilliant advertising, but is contrary to the feedback I receive from readers. The Kuga rides and handles better on the road and since a 2WD can’t go far off road anyway you can't benefit from the 4WD Tiguan's superior off road ability. Make sure you get a big discount off the Ford, though. The VW myth still helps VWs hang on to their value better than Fords.
