Familyer territory

I am looking for an MPV for a family of four. Something around 3-4 years old. Looked at Zafira so far. Would like to look at Verso but no luck finding one close by at moment. There don't seem to be many around on the used market. I sat in a Scenic but found it too tight in the drivers seat for me. I am not looking for anything bigger than a Zafira size. As I am 6'5" I need something that can fit me in the front as well as a growing family behind me with adequate room for long journeys. Would you have any advice on best type of MPV for me?
Safety is also an important factor as have children. It will be used for camping hols and family hobbies as well such as kayaking, biking, etc so needs to have room for kit and roof rack availability.

A Citroen Xsara Picasso is cheap, plentiful and very useful because it has three separate rear seats, lots of luggage space, and does 50mpg with the 2.0 or 1.6 diesel engines. 2.0 HDIs don’t have dual mass flywheels.1.6 HDIs do and the 110 is also fitted with a diesel particulate filter.
