On 10 August 2009 I signed up for a scrappage deal for my Ford Fiesta and paid a deposit of £250 for a new VW. The dealer photocopied my Tax disc and MOT, both valid on that date. Unfortunately, The Fiesta’s MOT runs out on 30 September. The new VW was ordered on 10 August, now I am told that it may not be delivered until 10th November. Do I have to MOT the Fiesta again before 30 September? I have arranged to leave the Fiesta at the garage on 30 September as I do not wish to use it after that date. It is insured and taxed until 28 February 2010. I would be grateful for an answer as the dealer could not tell me and I am still waiting for him to phone me back.

You're ok. The precise rule is:-

“Q: Are cars with MOT test certificates which have recently expired eligible for the scheme? A: Yes, provided the MOT certificate has expired no more than 14 days from the order date of the new vehicle. In such cases, you will need to make arrangements with the dealer for the collection of the old vehicle (as it could not be driven on the public highway). The dealer will also need to satisfy himself that the paperwork and the vehicle match, and are in order.”
