Having picked up 6 speeding points in 6 days I am anxious to stay within the law. Is there any technology (sat nav or otherwise) that will warn me if I am exceeding the limit whatever it is where I am? I have tried a Tom Tom: but it only warns you when you exceed the limit by about 7 mph - more latitude than the police give you; even worse it does not recognize any speed limit on some roads including A roads. Is there any reason why an electronic signal could not be passed to a vehicle when it passes any change in speed limit and the car have a device to warn you when you go over that speed? If the authorities were concerned with speed (as a opposed to speeding fines) they would introduce this.

See satnav FAQ answer at www.honestjohn.co.uk . Some units show the prevailing limit wherever you are alongside your true speed, as well as the presence of any fixed camera. Tom Tom beeping at 7mph over is only because your car’s speedometer is over-reading. It actually beeps at a true 10% over the speed limit and will be more accurate than your speedometer.
