My car's accelerator pedal sticks when I accelerate quickly. What's the issue?

The accelerator pedal sticks when I accelerate quickly. I have to get my toes under the pedal to get it back into position. It's a 2003 Citroen Xsara estate.

This is a very, very serious safety issue. I would urge you to get the car checked by a qualified mechanic immediately. It reads like a problem with the throttle cable. I would suggest having the car transported to the garage. Do not drive it in its current condition as it is dangerous and could cause a very serious accident.
