I have decided to buy a CC - convertible with a metal folding roof. Having owned a 3 Series BMW convertible in the past, I find their servicing costs, cost of oil changes, batteries and other parts to be extortionate, so, I have narrowed down my choice between the new Lexus IS250C or the Volvo C70. Both are similar in size & engine power but the Volvo claims a higher speed and better fuel consumption because it is lighter. The Volvo is front wheel drive and the Lexus rear wheel drive. How do you rate the cars? What one would you recommend? I am not interested in being the first away from the lights and I would never have "run flat" tyres.

The Volvo C70 has just been refreshed for 2010. But I’d still say go for the Lexus IS250C. See the video test at www.honestjohn.co.uk It's the most refined convertible you can buy bar none (including Bentleys), with the least wind noise and least buffeting top down. It is a pleasant rather than an exciting car to drive, handles well, and has paddleshifts for the autobox. But the latest of its ilk is the Infiniti G37 CC with a 320PS version of the engine fitted to the Nissan 370Z. It will obviously be a lot quicker than the IS250C.
