Wheel appeal

For a number of years, our church has supported St. Agnes Orphanage and Children's Home in Zimbabwe and we are currently trying to raise the funds to buy them a good reliable, second-hand 18 seater diesel van, which we would ship out by sea container. The van would need to be a Japanese make or alternatively Ford, so spares car be sourced via South Africa, and second-hand because that avoids having to pay import duty. Reliability and ruggedness are key factors and the seats must fold down so goods can be carried. As you know, life in Zimbabwe these days is pretty desperate and we so want to help them. It is possible to for them to obtain diesel courtesy of vouchers sent over from the UK and having transport would transform the lives of the children, many of whom are AIDS victims, and would make it so much easier for the staff to source affordable food and medicines. We currently have about £8,000 available. Do you have any ideas or contacts we could pursue please, or advise on appropriate vehicles? Better still, all donations towards the cost of the van and sea-container shipping would be wonderful and should be sent to the address in Herefordshire.

Probably the best vehicle is the current model Toyota Hi Ace Commuter, but not all of the seats fold flat. I don't know of any 18 seater that offers this facility. I guess for the rest of the money you just have to make a charity appeal. St Agnes Gokwe Children's Home is a registered charity in Zimbabwe Reg number CR 772. In the UK it operates under Community of Holy Fire Reg. Charity No. 1088195 and the address is Tatend, Dinedor, Herefordshire UK HR2 6LQ phone number 01432870395 or 07815755428, website: www.stagnesgokwechnshome.org
