Pounds, shillings and Bents
We have a 2006 Bentley Flying Spur, which is currently in our local Bentley dealer for a service. The dealer has phoned to say the car needs a new front wheel bearing and new front brake discs. The car is just out of warranty and has only covered 10,000 miles. The dealer said that Bentley would not replace them as a goodwill gesture or contribute to any costs as we have not accepted its extended warranty offer. The dealer also said Bentley would consider these items as wear and tear at 10,000 miles.

That's nice of Bentley. You spend £115,000 on a car and Bentley gets sniffy about replacing a wheel bearing that should have lasted three times as long and would have on a better built car like a Ford. Brake discs are a bit different. If the car has spent long periods standing, particularly over the winter, then corrosion could have got a hold and eaten into the discs. Paradoxically they would probably have lasted a lot longer if you had been doing 20,000 miles a year as frequent braking would have rubbed the surface rust off, preventing it from getting a hold. Nevertheless Honda dealers replace rusted discs no quibble as long as the car remains under warranty.
