I wonder if you can help, I'm looking to buy a Hyundai i10, FIAT 500 or Toyota Yaris. I test drove the FIAT 500 and i10 today, both of which I liked. The only issue I have is the reliability of these cars. I noticed on your website that you have a 500 yourself. Have you had any problems? Also I have been told that FIATs are not that reliable and are always having to go back to the garage. As you have one yourself I was hoping you could shed some light on this. Also do you think the 500 will hold its price? I would be very grateful if you would answer my queries.

No problems at all with my 500 1.2 petrol Lounge, and it has averaged 50.8mpg over 3,300 miles. It is beautifully built. Even has excellent paint quality. But the new 500C 1.3 diesel I drove recently did 64.6mpg and has much improved steering and suspension. I saw a 10 month old 500 1.2 Lounge in Punk Grey (an unpopular colour) sell at auction for £8,300 in July, which is pretty good value retention at that age. Normally a £9,500 car would make about £6,500. And I expect a price increase for the 2010 model year 500, which will get the improved suspension of the 500C and ESP, so I don’t see prices dropping fast. Buy new a basic 500 Pop for £6,300 (if you can get one) after the £2,000 scrappage allowance and I think you could get £7,500 for it selling privately to someone who didn’t have a scrapper.
