I have been the proud owner of various models of Honda all with automatic gearbox over the last 14 years. At present I own a 2006 Jazz automatic. This gives a perfect and smooth drive. As I intend to change this car in the near future I had a test drive of the new Jazz fitted with the I-Shift. I noticed that the gear changes were hesitant and jerky and gave anything but a smooth drive. I complained about this to the garage and was told that it is quite normal and that I would soon get used to it. I was further told that this was a mechanical operation and was different from the normal autobox. No complaints had been received from other users of the car. It seems that Honda has no intention of making any changes to this gearbox. I will be interested in hearing if you have had any similar complaints about the Jazz I-Shift. As far as I am concerned I shall not be buying the new model Jazz, which is a pity because in all other respects it seems a very acceptable car.

Yes, quite a few. But around 90-95% of drivers find they can get used to it and either drive more gently, use the paddles, or learn to anticipate the changes to cut out the lurches. These occur because the transmission is an electronically controlled automated manual – a manual gearbox worked by electronics and an electric clutch. To reduce torque reactions, especially when changing up from 1st to 2nd, the system damps the throttle. But if the driver keeps pressing the throttle hard, this will feed through as a lurch. These systems can be made to work very well. The best I have tried is FIAT’s Dualogic in a QUBO diesel.
