Car of many colours
I have a 2002 Toyota Yaris 1.0 VVTi that is chilli red in colour. Over the past couple of years I've noticed the paint colour slowly fade and become dull, and now it is beginning to peel off, but only on the passenger side of the car. It is the passenger wing, passenger door and passenger back panel. No other panels are affected in any other way and the petrol cap within the passenger back panel is unfaded and normal car colour. The car has been serviced by a Toyota dealer all but once and I have owned it since 6 months old. The car has been parked in a number of locations across the country throughout its ownership period. As this, to me, looks like a manufacturing defect, would it be worth my while approaching Toyota to pay for the respray or make a goodwill contribution towards the cost?

It could be that it had a paint fault when it was built, this was
rectified at the factory, but because it is not precisely the same paint
put on at precisely the same time and temperature, the localised fading has occurred. At 7 years old I think you would be pushing Toyota’s goodwill.
