Grand, spanking used

I am considering purchasing at 2001/51 Citroen Xsara with only 6,700 miles on the clock. Even if I am able to verify that the mileage is correct, and the car has a full service history, am I crazy? The owner, who bought the car new, tells me that he works from home and has been in and out of hospital over the last few years, hence the low mileage. What checks should I do to see whether the car has had a life of short journeys, and I should walk away, or whether the car has done the irregular long runs that the owner states. Assuming all of the above, is £1,000 a fair price?

Spend £1,000 on a car and all you can lose is £1,000. Don't worry about things like low mileage. It's a banger. And if it looks good and runs well they are the reasons for buying it.
