Humpers dumped?

I share your cynicism about the value and intent of the authorities spending large sums generated from speeding fines, on "traffic calming" measures. However, I understand that these provisions are often introduced following pressure from local residents. My question is, do these same people conduct themselves appropriately when on roads in other neighbourhoods? If so, most drivers should by now be pillars of motoring virtue.

The British public is easily suckered. Fine them, turn the revenue into government grants, hand the grants to favoured contractors, and easy money gets made. Except the same money could have been used to repair roads. Instead we have the spring and tyre destroying dual menace of potholes and crumbling speed cushions. We voted ourselves some new county councils on 4th June. Lets see if they’re any better. Though, of course, being the wrong political party, they might be starved of central government funds for road projects in order to make them look as bad as possible.
