Steer unclear
I am yet another Meriva owner with this dangerous fault, I have an 05 plate 1.4 life model and I am the 2nd owner having bought the car just under a year ago. Initially I had no problems for the first 3 months or so but the instances of the power steering simply turning off have increased steadily since then and I have experienced numerous faults which normally occur when I am just about to pull away at a junction when turning into or across traffic. My car has done 40,000 miles and is not quite 4 years old, I can ill afford the huge repair bills I have seen quoted and surely Vauxhall must be held accountable for this. Any new info you might have would be great to hear about.

There was a recall issued 10/09/2007: R/2007/118 “steering control may be lost on cars build dates 01/08/2007 - 01/08/2007. Steering arm to be checked and replaced if necessary.” But this recall urgently needs extending to earlier model Merivas because faults with them are very common. You and all other owners experiencing dangerous steering faults with Merivas must report the matter to www.vosa.gov.uk Unless VOSA is overwhelmed with similar reports it won't take this seriously and won't order a more extensive vehicle safety recall.
