Warrant offers, sir

On 23-05-08 I purchased a 2005 BMW 320D SE Auto from a BMW main dealer. It was sold to me under the BMW Premium Selection Approved Car scheme. With it came a 12 month Extended Warranty, which expired on 22-05-2009. The present mileage is just over 31,000. About three weeks ago the DTC malfunction warning light came on and a couple of days later the car was inspected by the dealer and a 'hydraulic control fault' was diagnosed. With great efficiency the dealers ordered the spares and fitted them all under the extended warranty. I asked what the damages would have been if the fault had occurred a few weeks after the warranty expired. Rather sheepishly the answer was “around £1,800 sir.” Would you expect such a major fault to occur on a BMW with only 31,000 miles on the clock? Can I now insist that the brand new parts just fitted, be covered by a warranty of four years, in the same manner as the original parts fitted when the car was first built?

I've heard of this happening before. Lucky it was covered. No, you cannot insist that the replaced parts are covered by warranty, because you did not pay for them. Parts replaced under warranty are only covered until the end of the warranty that paid for their replacement.
