Nothing in particulate

Thank you for your recent answer about DPF problems with my 56 reg Zafira Design CDTi (150). I have decided to sell it. Your website comments regarding DPF are all about this engine and I wonder if the Zafira 1.9 diesel (120) engine suffers to the same or lesser degree? I like the Zafira and even with less toys would consider a new Exclusive model with this lower output engine, if there are no DPF problems. My alternative is a new 2009 VW Touran 1.9 TDI (105) which does not have a DPF as standard. With the relatively low output I guess the engine is less stressed and manages emissions without help from filters? Your comments about the pre 08 Touran refer to DM Flywheel problems which my dealer assures me were sorted and no longer an issue. Is this correct? Any other problems to consider? With the VW I would like to keep it past the 3-year warranty, so reliability and avoidance of garage bills is important.

New information. There now appears to be a dealer software upgrade that all but gets rid of this problem, at the expense of a little bit of performance. Ask your Vauxhall dealer. Better than a Touran, the new Renault Grand Scenic 1.4 petrol turbo. Should do 40mpg and with more torque at low revs is much nicer to drive than a diesel. See the test at hjuk. The Touran is also available with a 1.4 petrol turbo engine.

You recommend running at higher revs to help a DPF to regenerate. I drive a Volvo V70 AWD 2.4d. At 2,000 rpm I travel at 60 mph. At 2,300 rpm I travel at 70 mph. How do you suggest I exceed the speed limit...
