Unsprung wait

On 2nd April 2009 I had to have my 2005 Fiesta Ghia with just under 5,000 miles on clock towed away because of a broken front offside road spring. My Granddaughter phoned to say the same problem happened to her 2005 Fusion car on the same day. We were told by my garage and by her repair engineer this is a common fault with these 2005 Ford models. I wonder how many more people have had this fault and just paid for the repair to be done, not realising that Ford needs to address this and perhaps recall these cars.

Very common on all makes and models of European build cars with European springs because of the cheap way the springs are made and installed, and the prevalence of pot holes and speed humps on UK roads. But, judging from the e-mails I receive, Fiestas do seem to be the worst affected.
