My 1993L Peugeot 205 auto with 50,000 miles has just failed MOT with leak on the power steering. There had been no indication of this problem. Peugeot dealers say it will cost £300 to replace the
“ram”? I have no idea what this is. Is it worth having done? The car is otherwise in very good condition and has been regularly serviced. I would appreciate you advice.

Probably would be. 205s were a great design. Very few rust problems.
