Though it climbs local hills and accommodates golf clubs, the family Smart fortwo has an annoying gear change. What modest automatic should we try next to replace it please?

Toyota IQ. Has a CVT auto that works brilliantly. Not much longer than a Smart and can take 4, at a pinch. See test and video test at:-
