Paddle car

I am looking for a used 4x4, budget up to £13k, to do an annual mileage of only around 10k mostly consisting of longer motorway journeys rather than short hops. It needs to be able to carry a couple of kayaks or bikes easily and be reasonably capable enough to get me up the tracks / green lanes where I use them, have decent interior space for moving bulky items and comfortable to sit in on the long motorway journeys. An early Discovery 3 would seem to be ideal, but is probably above what I'm willing to pay. Any ideas or recommendations?

You can get high mileage ex Highways Agency Disco IIIs and Nissan
Pathfinders and Mitsubishi Shoguns at auction for under £10k. The Disco III recently won 4th place in the Auto Express / Daily Telegraph Driver Power survey, so Land Rover reliability worries have obviously diminished.
