Export advice

My name is Pramod and I'm mailing you from Mumbai (India) and keep visiting your site to read reviews. I'm doing a project on exports of cars from India to the European markets by players like Suzuki and Hyundai. I wanted to understand the local duty structure in UK like the duty on imports of small cars (Hyundai i10 and Suzuki Alto), the local VAT and any other taxes/charges which are levied to arrive at the OTR price in UK.

All of Europe imposes a 10% EU import duty unless some deal has been made, maybe for low emission cars or for pick-ups. There was a 6% EU import duty on pick-ups from Thailand under 2,500cc. In addition to EU import duty, each country imposes its own VAT. Currently in the UK this is 15%. In other EU countries it is up to 25%. And in addition to that there can be registration taxes of up to 30%
