Padding done, bare
I had the rear brake pads and discs replaced on my 2007 Vectra. Am I correct in thinking that the discs only get damaged and hence need replacing if the pads are not repaired in time? I am thinking of getting the front pads replaced now as this is only about £60 to ensure that I don't need to replace the discs as well (another £150).

No. 99% of the braking of a car is at the front. The rear disc pads only clamp the discs in heavy braking. Consequently, while the front pads clean surface corrosion off the front discs very effectively, corrosion is not cleaned off the rears effectively and can therefore take a hold. That's why the discs needed replacing.

My Corsa has just failed its MOT because of a 'strong imbalance' between the L and R rear brakes. Apparently this could either be a distribution valve, or possibly the Master Cylinder.

Far better than previous Vectra. Now with decent handling and an excellent ride. Plenty of safety kit. Roomy in the front. Big boot. Good looks.
