I need to tax my car but the V5C is with the DVLA

I bought a car on the 6th of August and taxed it on the 7th when I also gave post office the logbook of my vehicle that I had part exchanged. The car I bought was not suitable and I returned it to the garage on 8th and got my money and the car I had part exchanged back. Now I can't tax my original vehicle because the log book is at the DVLA and I can't cancel the tax on vehicle I gave back because I haven't got a log book. The DVLA is not answering calls and their email service is not working.

Unfortunately this is the case for a lot of people. The DVLA has been dealing with a backlog since April time due to coronavirus (they couldn't handle paper applications for a while). They're running again but the building in Swansea is still socially distanced, so things are moving along very slowly according to the reports we get from readers. They've still got people's passports from months ago so they're at least four weeks behind on all applications by our estimates. I'm afraid to say it's just a case of waiting until it arrives.
