Daddy’s sauce
I have 18 months left with my 1.8TDCI Focus on Ford options and although a great family car I do not want another diesel so will look at other alternative cars. I am a single dad and need to carry my 2 growing kids (8 and 5) but want something fast and not very PC or ecologically friendly. If I stick with Ford and use any money left in my Focus it will be the ST3. If I look further afield I can look at the Golf GTI, Octavia VRs or even the R32. I am not that fussed about the petrol as I do 12-14k per year and used to own a T5 Volvo. The car needs to be reliable, carry the kids but most of all has to bring a smile to my face every day. I would be looking at new or nearly new. A little bit of me wants to stick an even bigger set of fingers up at this thieving government and go for a used Jaguar XJR, BMW M3, M5Â or similar. I have had some great cars in my youth and want to enjoy driving again. I’m interested in your view.

A Focus ST will bring a smile to your face, but it is a bit juicy. used, 5
doors are £2k cheaper than 3 doors because they don't look as good. A 'secret weapon' is a Volvo S30, S40 or V50 with the same engine and box. I like Leon 20VTs. I had a 180, which was quick enough and could return 35mpg. Currently the 200PS is probably a wiser choice then the 240. But the best of that engine is in an Audi S3. Understand it and the S3 is a sensationally quick car. And they now do a 5 door.
