All steal bodies

True story: A lady living in rural North Yorkshire had her car stolen from its overnight kerbside parking place, shortly after New Year. A few days later, she was contacted by her local garage that she had used for several years. The proprietor wanted to know if she had loaned her car to anyone. It seems the thief had experienced some misfiring and had, unbeknown to him, taken the car to the very garage that had serviced it for several years. It was arranged for the car to be checked over and the thief would return in an hour. After being called by the garage, the lady contacted the police who parked their car round the back and were sitting in the office when the thief returned. He was last seen being escorted to their patrol car. So it really does pay to stick to a good garage and develop a pleasant working relationship with them.

Nice story. I’ve got one to match. Years ago a Cortina belonging to a mate of mine was stolen in North London. This mate (on long shore leave) was supplementing his funds by working at a filling station in Camden Town when what should pull in for petrol but his Cortina, driven by the thief, who by then had replaced the ignition barrel. So my mate reached in, yanked the key, and got his car back.
