I would be grateful for some advise please. I bought 2005/55 Golf SE TDI in September 2006 from a VW dealer here in Scotland. The dealer is supremely helpful, provides superb back up and has serviced it regularly. The warranty ran until 16 November 08 or 60,000 miles. Last week, with only 20,000 miles on the clock and less than a month out of warranty, it broke down on the M6 and had to be rescued about three hundred miles home. I was told that it was a turbo problem, that VW would meet half the cost and the garage would meet some more. Today I am told it is ready for me to collect, that the turbo had collapsed, that the final bill is £1,882, that VW won't meet any of it but that the garage will take the major hit leaving me with £376 to pay. I am contemplating having to sell it and buy a lesser model. I would be pleased to hear if you think this is reasonable and if not how I should proceed.

Sorry, are you telling me that the out of warranty car has needed a £1,882 repair, that you are only being asked £376, and that you begrudge that £376? In this case the dealer has treated you very reasonably and the best advice I can give you is to find the £376 and pay it.
