I know you have written in the recent past that UK FIAT dealers have little or no room for manoeuvre on new car prices when it comes to the 500. However, the dealership from which I bought my current FIAT Barchetta (Desira Motor Group in Norwich) is prepared to give me a discount of £450 on a new FIAT 500 16v Sport, ordered to my own body colour and spec, with alloys and leather seats. They are also prepared to throw in a full set of mats and a loyalty discount scheme on my servicing, if I have it serviced with them. Does that sound like a good deal? (There is no trade-in involved, by the way: I’m going to sell my Barchetta privately.)

For the 500, FIAT dealers are on 6% + a 3% customer satisfaction bonus. But you might be able to get some discount on a 500 1.4 Sport because Sport is the least attractive spec and the 1.4 16v is the least wanted engine due to higher VED. The 'hot' specs are Lounge spec and 1.3 Multijet or 1.2 petrol engines. And, of course, the forthcoming Abarth that has much-improved rear axle and springs developed by Ford for the 500 based Ka.
