Cruiser control
I have purchased a Toyota LandCruiser LC 3.0 diesel automatic for towing our caravan. It was registered in November 2008. I am getting quite reasonable fuel economy given the large engine and vehicle (23-24mpg towing and 28-35mpg solo). Could you please advise whether it would give better fuel economy using Cruise Control both towing and solo or not engaging Cruise Control? Also when stuck in traffic say at a railway crossing where we might be stationery for 5 minutes should we engage Park, Neutral or switch off the engine in Park rather than leave it in Drive? In addition when reversing recently my right foot slipped off the brake pedal and I struggled to find the pedal again quickly in the shock. Is this why you recommend to use both feet to drive an automatic?

Economy depends on the sensitivity of your right foot. Basically for best economy you need to lose speed on upward inclines and gain it on descents. If 'cruise' simply keeps you to the same speed regardless you will use more fuel, particularly when towing. At a long stop, put it in neutral and switch off. You may then have to select Park to re-start. Yes, when manoeuvring, using your left foot to brake is the only way to remain in 100% control of the vehicle.
