Black holes
Further to my last email I wanted to warn you about some very nasty potholes in certain Surrey back lanes. Please be very careful if you use the popular shortcuts across country, from Ockley to Ewhurst, Dorking, to Newdigate. All these lanes are unlit, and can be very remote at night. These lanes are the last place you would want to break down in. You could easily wreck your suspension in the deep potholes that are littered along these lanes. When I rang the people responsible at Surrey County Council they tried to fob me off saying: last winter had been one of the coldest on record and as Surrey has more open countryside than most counties, the intense cold damaged the roads. I asked when they would be repairing the potholes and they said: they are having a meeting to try and sort things out. Typical British bungling, isn't it?

What you must do is report any potholes using www.fixmystreet.co.uk
They then forward the report to the relevant council and keep a record so if the council does not fill the pothole it is then directly liable for subsequent damage to anyone's car.
