Short haul

We are looking to change our ageing 1.6 Mk4 Golf for a new/nearly new car. The car is used for short commutes of about 2 miles and has to be able to accommodate bulky objects in the back. Hatchback is required with fold flat seats, the new Golf seats do not fold flat so not an option. What would you suggest? We want a car that will be fun/exciting. My main concern is the fact that the engine will not warm through so needs to be able to cope with this reliably, we aim to keep the car for 8yrs.

For this sort of use, the only vehicle that will remain reliable is an electric one. And, interestingly, a specialist recently wrote to tell me he had six Citroen Berlingo Electrique vans in stock at £5,000 - £6,000 each. He is Jo Burge, of Drivelectric, tel: 01473 327411
