Running Quashds

I am very keen on Nissan Qashqais. However, having originally wanted to change away from 4x4 the recent snow has suggested otherwise. What is the most economical 4x4 (to run), preferably automatic and diesel?

Qashqai 2.0 torque converter diesel autos aren’t bad. We got over 40mpg from one. But the most economical automatic 4x4 so far seems to be the Toyota RAV-4 2.0i petrol Valvematic CVT. Or wait for the forthcoming Hyundai ix35 auto that will be a twin clutch type, like VAG/ZFs DSG and Ford/Getrag’s Powershift. Winter tyres are a better answer for snow; winter tyres on a 4WD even better.
