I have done nearly 90,000 miles in my W reg Renault Grand Espace. It’s been a great workhorse. Yes, there have been a few expensive glitches, like a new gear box, but the benefit of being able to carry 7 adults and take them to play hockey, fit in 3 metre pieces of wood, or get rid of the seats and transport my daughter’s kit to uni, or take the family and + luggage and bikes to France has been immeasurable. Should I could get a used one at say 50,000 miles or a C4 Citroen Picasso at whatever, as I still have another daughter to transport to uni and there will still be occasions when 5/7 adults to a hockey game will be needed? Are there any other alternatives as I am out of touch with this size of car today? In either case I'd go for the 2.0/2.2 top of the range as comfort is useful. I prefer a high seat. All advice welcomed

The Ford Galaxy is the best. But getting a big revision this month. All the seats now fold away completely so do not need to be removed. Test and video: www.honestjohn.co.uk/road_tests The Peugeot 5008 is also very good. And the Renault Grand Scenic 1.4TCe 130 works well. If buying used, the Galaxy 2.0TDCI is good, and you can get it with a 6 speed Aisin Warner autobox. Addison Lee in London has 2,000 of them. They have been very reliable and the drivers love them.
