Valeo of the kinks

Thanks for information about the 2000 – 2004 Mercedes Benz Valeo heat exchanger issue. Interestingly, MB did fit a new torque converter last January (50/50 contribution), it seemed to improve for a while, but the fault remains. Basically the car surges in the lower gears. Imagine the car was a manual. A forward gear had been selected, the foot was being taken of the clutch, and been raised 50% up so the gear was engaged, then the foot if lifted suddenly. The gear then slams in, and the car surges forward. Doesn't happen all the time, and less so when the car has travelled for 15/20 minutes.

If the radiator and torque converter were replaced then it is logical to
think that the fault must be in the gear selector system, sometimes called the 'valve box' because it works by servo valves. Sometimes one or more of the valves may stick because of a seal fault or electrical connection fault. King Automatics of Epsom in Surrey is very familiar with this.
