Wheely in
I need to buy a small car that can take my 8-year-old son as a wheelchair passenger. It will be mainly used for short journeys with the occasional longer motorway drive. It only needs to seat 4 (including driver and wheelchair passenger) and I would hope to keep it for as long as it is reliable. I prefer manual transmission and would like roof bars. I have seen Peugeot Partners, Citroen Berlingos and Renault Kangoos all converted to take a passenger travelling in a wheelchair, can you offer me any advice as to how to choose between them? One garage suggested the FIAT Doblo, but this looked significantly bigger than the other three cars I have mentioned.

Depends on the width of the wheelchair (some are quite wide), but you may be able to drive it straight into a vehicle adapted by www.brotherwood.com (they are the best). Others are www.gowringsmobility.co.uk (now back in business and offering a FIAT Doblo capable of taking a large wheelchair or scooter); www.accessible-transport.co.uk; www.autochair.co.uk;

www.atlasconversions.co.uk; www.alliedvehicles.co.uk;
www.horizons-unlimited.co.uk; www.hillgruauaccessiblevehicles.com;
www.davincimobility.co.uk The alternative is to get a crane fitted inside the rear of the car to hoist the wheelchair inside, but that is far less satisfactory.
