Cutting the crass

I'm in need of some assistance. My mother is looking to change her 2006 Clio automatic and needs a car of a similar size. She wants something premium, I advised an Audi A3 however she feels its slightly too big, also it must be 5-door, any suggestions?

There's the current Mercedes A Class, of course. Refreshingly free of the many problems that afflicted the old A Class. The new Citroen C3 is much higher quality than the old one, but doesn't arrive until next month. There will be a new small Audi (smaller than the A3) at some time next year. Meanwhile, there's the new Polo, but a long wait for one with the new 1.2TSI 105 engine and the old 1.4 with DSG auto is distinctly unimpressive. One oddball possibility, certainly premium, is a Toyota IQ CVT auto.
